about the artist
Simon Burstall was born in Darwin in 1975 raised in Sydney, Australia and started taking his first photographs of his friends surfing at age 15. He then studied photography in art school, with his first thesis on the rave culture in the early 90’s in Australia. This then led to Simon to becoming a photo assistant working in many aspects of award winning adverting photographers. His childhood dream was to be a working photographer in New York to make his mark, which he did in 2000. Simon’s very first years in Manhattan he assisted the likes of David Sims, Steven Klein, to Herb Ritts.
Simon’s career has spanned over many aspects of the industry from fashion, beauty and lifestyle photography. Editorials for a variety of magazines throughout Europe and the USA from Visionaire Magazine, Vogue and Harpers Bazaar. His advesrtising work for companies like Gap, Lancome, Estee Lauder, Old Navy and Hugo Boss. In 2019 published his first photography book called '93: Punching The Light by Damaini books Italy.
Simon’s love for capturing people’s personalities has been the driving force behind his pictures. His passion is connecting with his subjects to find those in between moments. This gives his photos that playful energetic nature.
